Tips: Lift Devices
Although you might be tempted to use your buoyancy
compensator to help you lift small objects from depth,
doing so can be a very dangerous practice. For example, you
might be tempted to recover a buddy's lost weight belt from
the bottom using only the lift in your BC. The danger
arises when you loose your grip on the object being lifted,
especially within 15 feet of the surface. That additional
twenty plus pounds of air in the BC will continue to carry
the you too rapidly to the surface-- with potentially
serious consequences. You should always use an alternate
lift device, such as a lift bag, for bringing any object up
from depth.
These devices are essential as diving tools or life support
devices and can each be used separately, or seamlessly
integrated into the Halcyon MC system. All innovative
Halcyon lift devices make excellent signaling devices on
the surface and can be utilized as supplemental flotation
devices at depth.
