Mask, Fins & Knives ...what you should know
Carrying a spare
mask is worth consideration given the potential dangers
posed by a mask failing during a dive. The spare should be
as small as possible while still providing a comfortable
seal. Select a storage place for the mask where it is
easily accessible and unlikely to be damaged. Ideally the
mask can be stored in a pocket on the side of the
diver’s leg. Avoid strapping the mask on a light
canister, in a spare pouch on the belt, on the thigh, or
around the neck. These locations tend to interfere with
diving comfort, are more likely to be forgotten, and expose
the mask to more risk from damage
Large, bulky knives are heavy and increase the risk of
diver entanglement, particularly when attached to a diver's
leg. Knives should be able to operate as tools and yet be
small enough to stow out of the way until needed. The
