DIR Tips: Mask, Fins & Knives ...what you should know

Carrying a spare mask is worth consideration given the potential dangers posed by a mask failing during a dive. The spare should be as small as possible while still providing a comfortable seal. Select a storage place for the mask where it is easily accessible and unlikely to be damaged. Ideally the mask can be stored in a pocket on the side of the diver’s leg. Avoid strapping the mask on a light canister, in a spare pouch on the belt, on the thigh, or around the neck. These locations tend to interfere with diving comfort, are more likely to be forgotten, and expose the mask to more risk from damage

Knives should be able to operate as tools and yet be small enough to stow out of the way until needed.
